Conference & Event Services assists a variety of individuals, organizations, and groups who stay in University housing over the summer.
Interested in hosting a camp, conference, or event on campus? Your Conference & Event Services Coordinator will guide you through an individual planning process to ensure your event runs smoothly. They will follow up regarding next steps, provide a quote for your review and approval, and begin the contracting process.
Summer housing is available for any undergraduate, graduate, or professional student—including non-UMN students—with a summer internship, fellowship, or clinical rotation.
The University of Minnesota offers summer guest housing for visitors needing on-campus housing to conduct University-related business.
Orientation Housing is available for first-year or transfer students who need to stay an extra night before or after their Orientation date. Parents, guardians, or family members who are attending Orientation with their student(s) are also eligible to stay in Orientation Housing.
Before Your Stay
What To Bring
- Linens
- A linen package is provided in the cost of your stay and includes: Pillow, sheet, light blanket, towel, washcloth.
- Consider bringing items that contribute to your personal comfort, such as a favorite pillow, blanket, or any specific items that make you feel more at home.
- Clothing and Personal Items
- Pack clothing suitable for the duration of your stay and any personal hygiene products and toiletries you will need.
- Each residence hall offers a laundry room with washers and dryers free of charge. You will need to provide your own detergent and dryer sheets.
- Electronic Devices
- We offer high-speed wireless internet. Guests may want to bring their own electronic devices such as laptops, tablets, or smartphones. Don't forget your chargers.
- Entertainment Items
- Bring any entertainment items you may enjoy during leisure time, such as books, games, or other recreational activities.
- Snack and Refreshments
You may want to bring snacks and refreshments for your room. Don’t forget to bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation has many construction projects planned throughout the year that may impact your route to or around campus. Plan ahead to customize your travel route.

- Begin your journey in the northern part of the Twin Cities. If you're on I-35W South, I-694, or another major northern route, you're on the right track.
- Take I-35W South: Merge onto I-35W South, a primary highway leading towards downtown Minneapolis.
- Continue on I-35W South: Stay on I-35W South as you approach the downtown area.
- Merge onto I-94 West: Follow the signs to merge onto I-94 West. This highway will take you through downtown Minneapolis.
- Exit at Huron Boulevard SE: Take the exit for Huron Boulevard SE, heading southeast.
- Arrival at campus: Follow Huron Boulevard SE to reach the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. Depending on your specific destination on campus, follow additional signage or use navigation tools for precise directions.

- Take I-394 East or I-494 East: Depending on your starting point, merge onto I-394 East or I-494 East to head towards the Minneapolis area.
- Merge onto I-94 East: Follow the signs to merge onto I-94 East. This highway will take you towards downtown Minneapolis.
- Take Exit 233A for Huron Boulevard SE: As you approach downtown Minneapolis on I-94 East, take Exit 233A for Huron Boulevard SE.
- Arrival at campus: Follow Huron Boulevard SE to reach the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. Depending on your specific destination on campus, follow additional signage or use navigation tools for precise directions.
Parking
Guests have access to a variety of parking options near the residence halls including parking ramps and large van spaces. Guests may reserve parking spaces in advance by contacting Conference & Event Services through their event and/or program coordinator. Upon arrival, guests who have reserved parking will be given keycards and parking instructions.
Guests who have not reserved parking can park in public parking ramps and lots around campus for a daily rate. Please follow all parking instructions and street signs. Guests will be responsible for any fees and/or fines incurred.

Public Transportation
There are a variety of options to get to campus through Metro Transit. They offer an integrated network of buses and light rail, as well as resources for pedestrians and bikers.
Light Rail Transit: The Blue Line travels between Mall of America and Target Field. The Green Line links downtown Minneapolis, the University of Minnesota, and downtown St Paul. Tickets are sold at ticket machines at the rail station.
While You're Here
Checking In
Check in takes place at 1:00 p.m. at the Information Desk located in the lobby of the building you are staying in. If you need an early check-in, please let your event’s coordinator know at least 72 hours in advance.
Upon your arrival, you will receive a Conference Card that will grant you access to the residence hall, dining center, and meeting spaces necessary for your stay. It is your responsibility to keep this card on you at all times during your stay. You will also receive a key that will allow you to access your room.
Rules and Policies
All guests must comply with both University and Summer Housing Policies. We encourage you to take a moment to review these policies carefully, as they are designed to provide clarity and support throughout the stay. We also ask for your assistance in ensuring that all camp or conference guests are fully informed of and understand these policies.
Amenities




































Our amenities are designed to make your stay comfortable and convenient. Our rooms are air conditioned and feature a twin XL bed, desk, chair, closet, and dresser. We provide a linen package that includes towels, sheets, a blanket, and a pillow at check in. During your stay you will have access to study rooms, common area lounges, and one of the nation's fastest wireless internet networks! For leisure, there's a game room at your disposal and a community kitchenette space. There's no additional cost for laundry, and all utilities are included. Gender-specific and gender neutral shared bathrooms are found on each floor.
All of our buildings ensure round-the-clock support with a 24-hour staffed Information Desk and after-hours on-site staff. Housekeeping of common areas and maintenance services are provided by building staff. Your convenience and comfort are our priorities!
Dining Options
If you’re staying here with a group, they may have purchased a dining plan for you, and they will share any necessary details. If you don’t have a meal plan, there are plenty of great dining options on and around campus.
Please Note: To eat in any of our on campus Dining Halls we require a meal plan to be purchased.
Transportation
Traveling on Campus
The University provides free bus service between campuses as well as a number of other transit services, including the Gopher Trip app to find your next available ride and 624-WALK for 24/7 security staff available to walk or bike with anyone on campus.

Traveling Beyond Campus
Campus is located in the heart of the Twin Cities, offering countless opportunities to explore everything Minneapolis and St. Paul have to offer.
- Public Transit: Getting around is easy with Metro Transit, the cities’ comprehensive public transportation network, which connects directly to our campus.

- Bike: Minneapolis is also celebrated as one of the nation’s top cities for cyclists, with extensive bike paths and trails to explore.
- Rideshare: For added convenience, rideshare options like Uber and Lyft are readily available throughout the Twin Cities.
When You Leave
Checking Out
Check-out is by noon on your last date of stay. Ensure that all of your personal items are removed from the room, take the trash and recycling to the identified location in the residence hall, and check-out at the Information Desk located in the main lobby of the building. You must return your conference card and room key. Any lost cards or keys will incur a fee.

Yes, our campus and accommodations are designed to be ADA-compliant. Accessible rooms with features such as roll-in showers, grab bars, and wider doorways are available upon request. Common areas, dining facilities, and event spaces are also wheelchair accessible. If you have specific accessibility needs or requests, please contact us in advance, and we’ll work to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible.
Our campus offers a variety of amenities to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable, including:
- Laundry Facilities: Laundry machines are available in all residence halls. [Please note that detergent is not provided.]
- Wi-Fi: Complimentary high-speed internet is provided in all rooms and common areas.
- Fitness Centers: Access to on-campus recreation and fitness facilities for guests 18+ can be purchased after check-in by visiting the Recreation and Wellness Center (RecWell). [You will need to present your Conference Card to the desk to Purchase Passes]
- Common Areas: Lounges and gathering spaces are available for relaxing or meeting with your group.
- Recreational Spaces: Outdoor fields, walking paths, and recreational courts are located throughout campus.
- Kitchenette: All buildings have a common kitchenette available to use for guests 18+. Cooking utensils and pots/pans are available to check out at the hall Information Desk however dishes and silverware are not provided.
- Furnishings: All guests are provided with a twin XL bed, desk, chair, closet, and dresser.
- Air Conditioning: All residence halls are air conditioned for our summer guests.
