Summer Construction in Residence Halls Below is a list of upcoming construction projects that are occurring on campus throughout the summer months that may affect your guests’ experience.  Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns to uces@umn.edu 612.625.9090.

Essex Corridor Reconstruction - Centennial Hall, Frontier Hall & Territorial Hall

The project area comprises 3.2 acres in the residential Superblock on the Minneapolis East Bank Campus between Harvard and Oak Streets. Project improvements include full site demolition and reconstruction, pavement upgrades, improved amenities, landscaping, and utility adjustments. The project specifically addresses changes needed to improve fire and emergency responder access, paratransit access, pedestrian circulation, security, electrical, and other utilities.

The project will begin on May 20 and will be completed in August. This will have an impact on building access, vehicular and pedestrian movement, noise and vibration levels, and overall safety associated with a construction site. Your CES Coordinator will be reaching out directly to you as needed.

Territorial Hall

The main entrance to Territorial Hall is scheduled to reopen on June 28.

Patchwork in the parking lot to the west of Territorial Hall will take place on July 8 and 9.

Frontier Hall

Patchwork in the parking lot to the west of Frontier Hall will take place on July 8 and 9. The parking lot will also be inaccessible on July 13 due to sanitary work.

Pioneer Building Renovation

Pioneer Building Renovation is almost complete and the building will open in Fall 2019! There may be some noise near the construction site that will impact Centennial Hall, Frontier Hall, and Territorial Hall. Click here for more information and updates.

Oak Street

Project-related work along Oak Street will take place between June 26 - July 3.  Pedestrians will be redirected to the east or west side of the street, depending on where work is being conducted.

Beginning on Monday, June 17, the City of Minneapolis will start construction at the Oak St SE and Delaware St SE intersection for a bikeway improvement project.  Work is scheduled to take five to eight weeks.  The intersection will be inaccessible to traffic.  Information is available at:  http://www.minneapolismn.gov/bicycles/projects/oak-street-protected-bikeway
