Overview and History
Pioneer Hall's
south side was built in 1930 and the north side in 1934 and can accomodate 718 guests. The hall is one of four residence
halls on adjacent blocks known as the "Superblock." Pioneer is located across
East River Road from the Mississippi River. The East Bank is home to many programs
such as Mathematics, Engineering, Science, Women's Studies, Psychology, Architecture,
and Language Studies among others. Pioneer is located near Williams (basketball)
and Mariucci (hockey) Arenas, the University Hospital/Health Sciences complex,
the new Sports Pavilion, University Recreational Center, Natatorium (swimming)
and Stadium Village, a local shopping and eating area. From Pioneer, these buildings
are easily accessible by foot, bike, and the free campus shuttle system.
The colonial architecture of Pioneer provides rooms with varied configurations.
There are different room types and sizes for singles, doubles, triples, and
2,3, and 4 person suites (suites have separate bedrooms with a shared living area, like a living room). Pioneer has three fireplace lounges, a private inner
courtyard, and library in addition to the amenities mentioned below. It shares
its dining room with Frontier Hall residents who access it by a tunnel.
