Overview and History
Middlebrook Hall, named for former Vice President for Business Administration
William T. Middlebrook, was built in 1969 and is the only residence hall located
on the West Bank of the Minneapolis campus. Close to downtown Minneapolis and
the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome where the Gophers play football, the West Bank
offers various theatres, music clubs, coffee shops, co-ops, historic buildings
and ethnic and vegetarian restaurants. The West Bank campus is home to the School
of Music, Theatre Arts Department, Studio Arts Department, Carlson School of
Management, Law School, Social Science departments and the Hubert H. Humphrey
Institute. Middlebrook is located two blocks from Wilson Library. Connections
to the East Bank and St. Paul campuses can be made through convenient University
shuttle buses or through the pedestrian bridge over the Mississippi. All west
bank classroom buildings are connected by underground tunnels; convenient during
inclement weather.
Middlebrook can house 900 guests in predominantly double rooms and a limited number of suites (suites have a living area, bedroom, and a bathroom shared by roomates). A
dining hall is located within Middlebrook.
