Your Room

Each person in your room is provided with a single bed with linens, desk, chair, lamp and closet space with coat hangers.

Shared bathrooms are found on each floor, but are gender-specific. Please check before you enter; you may need to go up or down one flight.

Cooking is prohibited in the resident rooms. Please use the kitchenette area.

Linen Service

When you arrive, your bed is made with a mattress pad, sheets, pillow, pillowcase and blanket. There is a daily linen exchange located in the lobby of each hall
Towels, wash cloths and soap are provided in each room.

Dining Room

If your group has made arrangements for meals, your Summer Programs Card will provide you access to the Dining Room. It is only valid for the meals to which you have contracted. You must present this card at each meal. If lost, you can buy a replacement card. Meals not arranged by your group are available on a cash only basis.

Dining Services provides unlimited seconds, serving one entree at a time. No food, except bag meals and ice cream cones, may be removed from the Dining Room. Menus and serving hours are posted in public areas. Copies are available at the Hall Reception Desk of each hall.

Telephones

All University numbers (those with a 624, 625, 626 or 627 prefix), may be dialed using only the last five digits. For local off-campus numbers, dial 8 to receive an outside line. Your room phone has restricted local access. Telephones are only available to adult groups upon request. Chaperones/Coaches of your groups may request a phone for their use at the hall desk.

Long distance calls must be:

  1. An 800 (toll-free) number
  2. Placed through a third-party long distance service (AT&T, MCI, Sprint or similar company)
  3. Collect and must be placed through the telephone operator. "0" (not "1") must precede your number (for example, 0-212-555-1212).

There is a pay phone in the Lobby. However, it does not accept credit cards.

Parking

Reserved parking is available for all conferences. If your conference has reserved parking, hangtags/permits will be provided with registration materials authorized by the conference supervisor. Your conference sponsor must reserve parking no later than seven days in advance.

Reserved parking is not available for youth group members.

If you do not have reserved parking, it is your responsibility to find parking and pay for it. Public parking may be available on a cash basis at the nearby ramps and lots. Be aware that parking can be expensive. Improperly parked vehicles may be ticketed and/or towed by the police; any fees/fines incurred are your responsibility. Keys

Depending on your hall, you will be issued a door key or card access and a room key. Longterm groups will be issued mail keys upon the request of their conference sponsor. If you lose a key, please report it immediately to the Hall Desk. You will be charged for each replacement key. Additional charges may be required if locks need to be changed or replaced. University keys may not be duplicated.

Hall Reception Desk

Hall Receptions Desks are open and staffed 24 hours. The hall staff will assist with check-in and check-out of your conferences. The staff is also available to assist guests with their confort and care.

Mail & Messages

An individual mailbox for your room is in the lobby next to the Hall Reception Desk. Mailboxes are assigned to those groups staying for two weeks or more. Messages for residents and guests may be left at the Reception Desk. When you give the address of your building to family and friends, please include your room number.

Check Out

Unless otherwise arranged, check out time is at noon. Please return your keys to the Hall Reception Desk in the key envelope. You are not officially checked out until your keys are returned. It is your responsibility to remove all of your belongings from your room. Luggage transport service is not available. If necessary, the Reception Desk can arrange temporary luggage storage on a space-limited basis.

Safety

Personal safety and property protection are high priorities. You must help by always locking your door. The University is not responsible for the theft or loss of any money or personal belongings. We suggest you mark your belongings and keep a record of the serial numbers. Do not admit unknown persons to the building and do not leave purses and luggage unattended. You must escort your guests at all times.

The building entrance doors are locked from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. and the doors leading to residential areas are locked 24 hours per day. Your room key provides access. Do not prop open exterior building doors or the doors leading to the residential areas.

Business Office

Each building’s office is near the Reception Desk. Billings, lost keys, room arrangements and other administrative matters are handled here. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. - 4:15 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Vending, Ice, Change & Laundry Room

Vending and video games are located near most TV Lounges or lobby areas. Ice is available. Contact the Hall Reception Desk for the location in your building. Change is available from a change machine in the vending area. Laundry facilities are available and include a vending machine for laundry products.

Checks, Credit Cards, Foreign Currency

The Bookstores and Food Venues in Coffman Memorial Union accept Visa or MasterCard payments; the rest of University does not accept any credit card payments or foreign currency. Cash and Travelers' Checks are accepted and personal checks are accepted for the amount due. There is a fee for returned checks.

General Information

There is emergency egress (exit) information posted inside the door to your room. Please take time to read it. Emergencies are rare, but we urge you to be prepared. Your Summer Assistant has been trained in emergency procedures and will advise you as needed. The people at the Hall Reception Desk have been trained to help you. Please feel free to ask for assistance.

Summer Assistants

Summer Assistants (SAs) are on duty each evening and are assigned to each group in the hall. They are trained to deal with a wide range of situations. If you need assistance, the Hall Reception Desk staff will contact the SA or will provide the name and number of the SA-on-Duty. The University Police will handle medical emergencies.
